Aang’s Disguise
Good thing I have the black and white picture. I fucked up the coloring so I might not finish it. Colored pencils are tough things.

So here we are, we’re a couple months into 2012, and if you’re like me, your New Year’s resolutions have long been forgotten. But it’s a new month tomorrow and a great time to get into the habit of creating. So MoleskineLovers presents: March Moleskine Madness! The goal: to create something in our Moleskine journals every day in March.
Here’s how it will work:
- Step 1: Draw, doodle, journal, collage anything in your Moleskine, try to fill a whole page.
- Step 2: Upload a scan or pic of your creation to your own tumblr (do NOT submit it to here). Try to include the date somewhere, in the journal or typed in the tumblr post.
- Step 3: Tag your tumblr post “Moleskine Madness” <—-This is important!
I will track the “moleskine madness” tag (you can too!) and create a least a post a week (more if there’s a high number of participants) featuring my favorite pieces.
FAQs
-What should I draw?
This is an anything goes kind of challenge, so draw whatever you want! If you need more structure than that, there’s plenty of “Month-long drawing challenges” out there on the ‘nets. Here’s one that’s pretty popular on Tumblr: 30 Day Drawing Challenge. I can also offer a daily prompt if people are interested.
It may also help to assign yourself a theme for the month. Places you want to visit, favorite books/movies/tv shows, animals, your favorite things to do. Maybe try drawing in a different style or in a different medium every day.
-I can’t draw!
That’s fine, this isn’t limited to just sketches. You can make a collage, create decorative text, or just write!
-I don’t have a Moleskine.
As I’ve stated before, I’m fine with the many Moleskine-knock-offs out there, I’m not going to scrutinize every picture to make sure you drew it in a Moleskine brandname journal. Just crop your pictures so no edges are visible, I won’t ever know it’s not a Moleskine ;-) (no blue notebook lines, though, please).
-What will I get if I complete this challenge?
Um, a sense of pride and accomplishment. And, tell you want, I’ll create a special “winners post” and list people who complete more than, say, 25 drawings this month. So, the prize is pride, sense of accomplishment and possible Tumblr fame.
Once again, the rules for March Moleskine Madness:
- Draw, doodle, journal, collage anything in your Moleskine, try to fill a whole page.
- Upload a scan or pic of your creation to your own tumblr (do NOT submit it to here). Try to include the date somewhere.
- Tag your tumblr post “Moleskine Madness”. Again, this is crucial, double check for typos before posting.
Let the creativity begin!
We will be participating :)
This is a quick sketch of my friend Brooke. Done at 2:00 am in 5 minutes, but I feel like I owe this blog a sketch, no matter how quick.
Finn the Human
Lines, a little shading, lines again, more lines, thicken lines, lines, shading, shading. He was fun to draw, but my finger about broke trying to darken his mouth. Algebraic!
Falco Lombardi - Color
My scanner doesn’t pick up color, so my phone will have to do.
Falco Lombardi
I did not intend for Falco to look so buff, but a life of slaying Andross through various routes of the same planets gets anthropomorphic video game characters ripped, I guess. The left side of his face was super hard to draw; perspective and stuff is difficult.
I’ll be back as soon as possible

John Barrowman. When I first met Captain Jack Harkness it was through Torchwood, not Doctor Who. Which I am perfectly ok with, as it turns out. I got to see a bad-ass alien hunting, revolver shooting, omnisexual, space-time traveling leader of awesome. I watched the entire series over this last summer. I recommend it.
I think I’ve figured out why all of my drawings are slightly skewed, with too-high eyes and thin mouths. When I work, I see my drawings at an angle. It’s clear in this one especially that the face is vertically stretched. It’s something to work on.
It appears all of us have taken a bit of a break from drawing. Apologies for that. This is a big commitment. My drawings take anywhere from 1 to 3 hours.
This is another of my friends from high school. He’s at a debate tournament in this photo (I think, anyway), hence the suit. Dapper, as always!
I started this project as a way to deal with stress and other chaos in my life. These past few days have been great. The sun has been out, it’s gotten at least ten degrees warmer, and even though my grades aren’t where I want them to be, I know for sure I’m learning what they’re teaching. I even got to see Orion’s Nebula and Jupiter (and its moons, and its stripes!) through a telescope someone has on campus the other day. All things considered, it’s been a good week.
As stress was my motivator to draw, it’s been a few days since my last post. Hopefully I’ll be able to keep up on the daily sketch idea, maybe not, but at least for now, I don’t mind that I’ve missed a day or two.
“Sup, I’m a Cheetah”
This Cheetah was much harder to draw than I thought, especially after I realized crap, I have absolutely no idea how to draw texture. Cheetahs are full of texture. I was not happy with it when I started texturing/shading, but I think it turned out overall okay. From ET to a cheetah is not baby steps which is what I should be taking when starting out. Cheetahs are mega cool. Purring is good. And it helps if you look at it from a distance.
